The Vineyard
The original vineyard consisted mostly of self rooted Chardonnay and a few rows of Pinot Noir that were planted in the late 1970's. With wide 12 ft rows and closer plant spacing the vineyard was situated perfectly on a south facing hill in what would soon become a prime wine growing region. Our family came across the vineyard when Dave and Carol VanSchepen purchased the property for their young family in 1981. Throughout the 80's and 90's Dave and Carol tended the vineyard and the grapes were sold across the street to Oak Knoll Winery, one of the regions oldest wineries. Both Dave and Carol were working full time and raising three children, and after years of tending the vineyard for commercial production soon they decided to leave commercial production and spend more time on other demands of life.In 2007 their daughter, Dana Blizzard, with the help of a good friend, Elissa Fenske, took charge of putting the vineyard back into production. After two years of low yields it was decided to rip out the old vines and replant. This time the vineyard would be twice as dense in plant spacing, consist mainly of Pinot Noir while keeping some of the old Chardonnay, and use the practices of Low Input Viticulture and Enology (LIVE). While the vineyard is reestablishing itself, Dana completed her associates of applied science degree in Wine Making from the NW Viticulture Center and is currently applying for winery license.
